The Hypersonic signals the bright new revival of what has always been the most exciting part of windsurfing, slalom. The combination of Jim Drake's aeronautical expertise with the radical ideas of our chief designer Tiesda You and the foresight of Svein Rasmussen yielded the most radical design yet seen in the sport of windsurfing.
Exhaustive testing of over 20 prototypes in Thailand, Australia and Maui evolved a radical board 227 cm long and 76 cm wide, with 2.5 cm deep concaves running into a cutaway tail. The Hypersonic's width and the drive created by the deep concave provide a powerhouse of acceleration. The short concave hull glides across harsh chop with ease, while consistently planing through lulls.
A wide tail section gives leverage over the fin to maintain high wind control in conjunction with the Formula style cutaways reducing the wetted surface. Another technical breakthrough is the carefully designed 3 dimensional outside pressure edge: the deep concave combined with the curved outline naturally induces a heavily curved and biting rail that allows the board to track accurately through jibes.
"Starboard has retained the idea of double concaves more efficient and it is performing better in all conditions. Whether it is with a 5.8 well powered up or with a 10.4 race sail, this board has shown extraordinary potential and character. We have an impression that the fat concave and deep central edge gives the board grip without having to use a deep fin. The jibes are both very fast and biting without the board bouncing." Wind magazine - France.
"I'm stoked, this Hypersonic is really unbelievable in it's performance range" - Jesper Orth
"Speed is back, and how! - Hypersonic is about making more people more fast more often" - Ian Fox
"It's amazing, that a board can have this speed with both small and large sails !" - Ricardo Guglielmino
"I was not sure if Tiesda was able to pull this radical shape off in a way that it would not only be fast and exciting, but also easy and smooth. He did, and we are looking for ways to implement all the things we learned with the Hyper project into other ranges." - Svein Rasmussen
"Woow" - Jim Drake
