- The 2002 FreeFormula range set a new trend of easy-sailing freerace boards with performance close to Formula designs. Windsurf magazine-UK said after testing the FreeFormula, "Once again, Starboard lead with a new breed of widestyle freeride boards."
- For 2003, the FreeFormulas have been reworked with deeper concaves for a crisper acceleration and ride. The new noses are shorter to reduce swing weight and offer a more lively, responsive ride in combination with re-tuned rocker lines and carefully distributed "V" configuration. The extra responsiveness combines with control in over-powered conditions to offer an exceptionally exhilarating ride with comfort in all conditions.
The straps have been moved out-board marginally to offer a more sporty feeling. New tail shapes with gradual tuck increasing up to the cutaways improve jibing without compromising water release: full planing jibes in light conditions are now easier than ever, bringing a new dimension to light-wind sailing.
