The StarFish is another watershed concept dividing what was before, from what will be, by Jim Drake and Svein Rasmussen.
- "Luke Walmsley won the West Australian Wave Championships round 1, at Scarborough beach on a Fish. He was going off on it. The board got me to 2nd place at the Lancelin Wave Competition last year. I took out Peter Volwater in the semi final; I hear he is quite good. Blair Simpson got me in the final but only just.
The Fish has been an essential tool in 2 years of dominance of the Western Australia Pro Wave tour that I have won 2 years in a row. I like to think of it as my light wind insurance policy...and I'm no lightweight at 85 kg.
The Fish allows me to absolutely dominate the surf break in 12-15 knots. Teamed up with a 5.8 m2 sail the board provides an almost unfair advantage over traditional style wave-boards. I have to give waves away to avoid bad karma or being branded a "wave hog".
Using a Fish you will be getting twice or even three times the number of waves compared to everyone else. This is because of the super efficient planing action of the board. Using black magic this has been married with a board that is also super loose. Here is how it all works:
The Fish produces AMAZING drive off its bottom turn rail that can then be beautifully rolled off the heavy 'vee' onto the top turn rail as you introduce it to the lip. Now you have to choose between the re-entry, aerial or the 180 reverse. Once you get used to it, this unique board has a fantastic action coming out of the lip. All in conditions where an ordinary wave board would be struggling to maintain the plane through the bottom turn.
As soon as the wind hits 12 knots you are planing instantly. Fly back upwind and get another wave or bear away hit the ramp and stick a 20 ft backie...again the choice is yours. The Fish's short length means the board has built in "auto pilot" for landing BIG jumps."

"The Fish is specialized for real-world conditions. Its short length makes snappy turns a breeze, while its wide outline planes early and at remarkably slow speeds. Tri-fins give this short beefy shape great upwind power and unparalleled grip in turns" - Windsurfing magazine - USA
