Kevin Pritchard wins Maui Slalom Series.
Howling winds barrleing down the Kanaha Beach Park shores made for some great slalom action this past weekend at the Maui Fin Co Slalom race. Races run one after another made for tons of racing and tons of fun.
In the pro mens division, it was Kevin Pritchard challenging himself out of recovery from his foot injury to battle it out with the boys in the quest for gold who looked like he was on a bit of a mission. In the first heat of the day saw Kevin Ozee blazing some trails making it around the course in the lead...until the dreaded last mark. With Pritchard hot on his heals, putting the pressure on, Ozze had a good jibe, but left just enough room for Pritchard to make his move, put on the gas and speed his Starboard/Gaastra combo to round in first position.
The other 4 races were a little bit easier with Pritchard getting more and more confident in his starting techniques as well as just pushing his foot more and more, to come up with some holeshots to the first mark. Robbie Radis came up from Austrailia to put in some good runs as well as the veteran Alex Aguera having some moments as well. In the end Pritchard walked away winning 6 of 6 races that he competed in.
"I can't tell you how good it feels to be out there winning races. These guys have been out here all summer getting tuned up and I can tell you that they are not slow at all. I was out there putting in some great lap times and they were right on my tail the entire way. I was powered up on my 5.9 Nitro and the Starboard Sonic and it was really working well. I even used the Drake 34 fin which was pretty impressive. Slalom is so much fun. I had Phil on my case about getting up and helping him pack all his stuff up as he was leaving last night, but I couldn't turn down these races. They were just too much fun. Full speed, high action, blazing turns, that is what slalom is all about," said Pritchard.
